CEDAR PARK, Texas, September 13, 2010 – ETS-Lindgren, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of turnkey wireless test systems for Over-the-Air (OTA) measurements, announced approval of the Anritsu Company Model MT8860C WLAN Test Set as part of the company’s overall test system offered to conduct RF performance evaluation and certification testing of Wi-Fi® Mobile Converged Devices. The testing, which is mandatory for any Wi-Fi mobile converged device destined for the North American market, provides network operators and handset manufacturers with a consistent method of evaluating and comparing the RF performance of devices that incorporate both Wi-Fi and cellular technologies. With this approval, customers of ETS-Lindgren’s wireless test systems now have viable options for the test instrumentation conveniently packaged with the system.
ETS-Lindgren made the announcement following extensive testing of Model MT8860C at its CTIA Authorized Test Lab (CATL) in Cedar Park, Texas. “This evaluation testing was extremely important to our overall product offering of wireless test systems,” commented Bryan Sayler, Senior Vice President, Test Solutions. “As manufacturers of wireless test systems, our customers rely on our expertise to provide them with a turn-key, world-class wireless test solution - that includes the test chamber and all associated software and hardware. Our goal is to complement the products we manufacture with equally high quality test instrumentation. With our in house test capabilities, we can document the quality of the Anritsu Model MT8860C and its functionality with our wireless test systems,” he added.
Wireless test measurements, such as Over-the-Air, require specialized test systems in which every component must function seamlessly and in concert with each other. That means the test instrumentation and associated software performance are just as important as the chamber test environment. ETS-Lindgren designed a new MT8860C instrument driver for use with its popular EMQuest™ EMQ-100 Antenna Measurement Software. This software not only controls the measurement equipment, but is capable of positioning the measurement antenna relative to the converged device under test to measure 3-D radiation patterns. For added convenience, the software also post processes the measurement data to produce the required test metrics, such as Total Radiated Power and Total Isotropic Sensitivity.
To complete the MT8860C validation process, a joint development program was established between Anritsu, The Wi-Fi Alliance®, and ETS-Lindgren. The Wi-Fi Alliance concluded that the MT8860C performance is within the required measurement uncertainty for conducted TX, RX, and OTA Total Radiated Power (TRP) and Total Isotropic Sensitivity (TIS). “We were pleased with the results of the testing we conducted in partnership with ETS-Lindgren on Model MT8860C. We were able to confirm conclusively that the product performs as intended with the ETS-Lindgren wireless test system for Wi-Fi CWG Certification Testing,” said Patrick Green, Principal Engineer, of the Wi-Fi Alliance.
