Siemens Guadalajara Expands Test Services and Product R&D Capabilities
CEDAR PARK, Texas, August 9, 2016 - ETS-Lindgren announced completion of a new acoustic chamber at the testing laboratory of Siemens in Guadalajara, Mexico. The chamber was designed and installed for noise testing of electrical motors per ASF international industry specifications. In addition to expanding the company’s test services, the acoustic chamber also enables Siemens to determine sound performance analysis of motor noise in different configurations. This R&D test capability allows Siemens to perform continuous improvement of their motor designs. Now, Siemens can offer acoustic test services to their customers as well as improve their product designs to continue meeting their customers’ expectations of high quality.
The acoustic reverberation chamber, ETS-Lindgren Model R100-1, has approximate dimensions of 7m (24 ft) x 6m (19 ft) x 5m (15 ft). The chamber provides 200 cubic meters for making precise and engineering grade measurements of products and building acoustics >100 Hz. The chamber was installed so equipment to be tested can easily be surrounded by high precision microphones. Placed at specific distances, determined by the test method described in the guidance document, IEEE 85-1973 “IEEE Test Procedure for Airborne Sound Measurements on Rotating Electric Machinery”, the microphones are connected to a data acquisition system which quickly processes the data collected.
ETS-Lindgren’s Model AS-R504E high performance, acoustic reverberant panels were used to construct the chamber. Access includes a dual leaf, acoustic equipment door with overall approximate dimensions of 2m (8 ft) x 2m (8 ft) as well as a single leaf acoustic personnel door with approximate dimensions of 1m (3 ft) x 2m (7 ft). The chamber panels and doors feature ETS-Lindgren’s popular SoundSecure™ high performance technology.
In addition, the acoustic reverberation chamber was installed inside a new building. Prior to installation, the new building was constructed keeping in mind the attenuation of the external ambient noise towards the interior of the chamber. An isolated concrete floor was installed to eliminate adverse vibration effects and ensure accurate and precise acoustic measurements inside the chamber.

To ensure that ETS-Lindgren products perform as stated, the company operates an Acoustic Research Laboratory at its headquarters in Cedar Park, Texas. The lab maintains accreditation under the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) NVLAP accreditation program (NVLAP Lab Code 100286-0) for most industry standards related to the measurement of sound transmission, sound absorption, sound power and noise emissions.
